SSX

Synchrotron serial crystallography (SSX) enables new science by allowing studies of protein and enzyme dynamic processes. SSX requires rapid delivery of small crystal samples 1-2 orders of magnitude faster than is possible using traditional crystallography techniques, gathering data at rates that are untenable for human management and necessitating the use of High-Performance Computing resources for data processing and analysis. SSX offers new opportunities to biologists: time resolution using light activation for change in conformation or to change pH, very low X-ray dose for sensitive samples, room temperature for more biologically relevant environments, controlling radiation sensitivity for metalloproteins, and helps discover redox potentials in active-sites.
